AI can access your data. Can you trust what it does with it?

Nearly every enterprise is exploring AI analytics, but just 7% have scaled it across the organization. Why? Because general-purpose AI doesn’t understand your business: your definitions, your rules, who’s allowed to see what, and the institutional knowledge that lives in your team’s heads.

We put that theory to the test. In WisdomAI’s head-to-head benchmark on a live compliance data warehouse, Claude got more than 1 in 4 answers wrong.

With the same data, documentation, and zero human intervention, WisdomAI delivered 20 points higher accuracy, answering questions 3x faster at a 3.4x lower cost per question. That’s just the start of what’s possible when you add an AI architecture that’s purpose-built for analytics.

In this report, you’ll learn:

  • The full stage-by-stage benchmark results for accuracy, speed, and cost

  • Why general-purpose LLMs and coding agents like Claude Code plateau on enterprise analytics

  • The type of architecture that makes AI analytics reliable, with proof from enterprises who have it in production

  • What to look for in an AI analytics vendor, and the red flags that won’t show up in a demo

“LLMs are a commodity. The real value add is how you build, maintain, and update the context, and how you call that context when needed.”

WisdomAI vs. Claude Code: Frequently asked questions

Why did you compare WisdomAI with Claude Code?

Claude Code is one of the most capable AI coding agents available. Although it’s built for software development, many teams use it as a general-purpose AI, including to write SQL and answer questions about their data. We wanted to test our product against a tool our audience already trusts. Our study shows how a purpose-built analytics architecture increases accuracy, speed, and efficiency beyond what a coding agent can do on its own.

Which models did each system use?

Claude Code ran claude-opus-4-8. WisdomAI coordinates multiple frontier models, and during the benchmark its primary model came from OpenAI’s GPT-5.6 line, with smaller models handling supporting steps. Customers can also bring their own model. Because the systems used different models, the benchmark compares 2 complete products, not 2 models.

Isn’t Claude Code already good enough for enterprise analytics?

Claude Code is excellent at what it was built for: writing and reasoning through code, including SQL. But SQL is only part of the job. Trustworthy enterprise analytics also requires governed definitions, access rules automatically enforced for every user, answers that stay consistent over time, and a system that remembers what it learns. These capabilities come from the architecture around the model, which is what WisdomAI provides.

Does WisdomAI replace Claude?

No. WisdomAI works with Claude, ChatGPT, and other MCP-compatible clients. Your teams can keep asking questions wherever they already work, including in Claude, while WisdomAI runs underneath to supply the context, governance, and verification that enterprise analytics requires. You can also conduct natural-language analytics in WisdomAI, or embed it in your own applications.

What is the difference between purpose-built and general-purpose AI?

Frontier models are typically general-purpose. They can reason through almost anything, but they don’t know how your business works. Purpose-built software wraps around a model to fit a specific job. Claude Code does this for software development, Harvey for legal work, and WisdomAI for enterprise analytics. The model provides the intelligence while the purpose-built analytics architecture provides the knowledge and guardrails reliable analytics needs.

Will these results hold up on my data?

The benchmark used a single live compliance data warehouse, so your results will depend on your data, questions, and existing documentation. The overarching pattern should stay the same, though: documentation helps any AI system, but purpose-built architecture that learns and enforces context goes further. The best way to find out is to test it yourself.

Is the 93% to 73% comparison apples to apples?

Not exactly, and the report says so. Claude Code’s best result, 73%, came at the documentation stage, where both systems had the same inputs. At that stage, WisdomAI scored 77%, a difference of a single question. WisdomAI’s 93% came after its automated learning stage, which Claude Code couldn’t run because it has no built-in learning mechanism. During that stage, WisdomAI learned from the benchmark questions themselves, the same way it learns from real usage in production, and it never saw the correct SQL or expected results. That’s why we describe 93% as accuracy after learning on the workload, not accuracy on new questions.

Why didn’t you give Claude Code a memory file?

Claude Code supports memory files that users write and maintain by hand, but it doesn’t learn from results automatically, and that automatic learning is what stage 3 measures. In an earlier test round, we let Claude maintain its own memory with no feedback on whether its answers were right, and its accuracy dropped from 61% to 30%.

What are the Enterprise Context Layer and Analytics Harness?

The Enterprise Context Layer provides a single home for all six types of enterprise context. And it helps you manage that context, keeping it current as your business evolves. The Analytics Harness applies the context to every question. It interprets questions, selects the right context, enforces access rules, plans an efficient query, and verifies the answer before anyone sees it. Together, they’re the architecture behind WisdomAI’s Agentic Analytics platform.

Does WisdomAI work with my existing semantic layer or dbt models?

Yes. Your existing semantic layer, data catalog, and dbt models become the foundation of your Enterprise Context Layer. WisdomAI accepts the Apache Ossie standard and also offers MCP and native connections, so you can build on the work you’ve already done. Then, our Context Builder helps you fill in the extra context that those tools don’t capture, like institutional knowledge and access rules.
